چکیده

more allergens showed a higher incidence of raised IgE in serum (52%) than those reacting to only one allergen (23%), whereas only 1 of the 10 children in whom allergy investigation proved negative had raised serum IgE. In children where bronchial asthma was the only atopic disease, the incidence of raised serum IgE was low (14%), whereas high incidences (58-84%) were found when atopic dermatitis, urticaria, and gastrointestinal allergy occurred in addition to bronchial asthma. Patients with food allergy had a higher incidence of raised serum IgE than the total group of patients with allergic bronchial asthma. No significant difference in serum IgE concentrations was found in children subjected to hyposensitization therapy as compared with those who had not received such treatment. It is concluded that serum IgE determination is a valuable diagnostic tool in distinguishing between allergic and nonallergic asthma in selected cases, when it is used

The effects of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells on ovalbumin-induced allergic asthma and cytokine responses in mice

Objective(s): Allergic Asthma is an inflammatory disease of the lungs that is characterized by increased infiltration of leukocytes into the airways, limiting the respiratory function. Studies suggest that a defective general regulatory system against inflammation could be a significant factor in allergic asthma. It has been shown that Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have a cellular immunosuppres...

Serum Level of Selenium, IL-4, IL-10 & IFN-g in Patients with Allergic Asthma, Allergic Rhinitis and Healthy Controls

Background: Allergic diseases have increased during the past decade worldwide. Th2 type lymphocyte response is known to play an important role in the process of allergic inflammation. IL-4, a mediator of type II cytokine response increases IgE synthesis and Interferon gamma, a cytokine of type I response interferes with IL-4 and inhibits IgE production. Selenium is an essential component of glu...

Recent Progress in Allergen Immunotherapy

The efficacy of allergen immunotherapy for the treatment of allergic rhinoconjunctivitis with or without seasonal bronchial asthma and anaphylaxis caused by the sting of the hymenoptera class of insects has been clearly demonstrated in numerous well-designed, placebo-controlled trials. Immunotherapy whether by subcutaneous injection of allergen extract or by oral/sublingual routes modifies peri...
